Norwalk is a suburban city in Los Angeles County, California. Norwalk was incorporated in 1957, and now has a population of about 110,000 people. It is situated 17 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, and 12 miles northwest of Garden Grove.

The city enjoys an excellent transportation system with 4 freeways that cross into city boundaries. The Santa Ana Freeway (I-5), San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605), Century Freeway (I-105), and the Artesia Freeway (SR 91). The city also benefits from the Los Angeles MTA ("Metro") , which provides both bus and rail service from Norwalk.

Norwalk had originally become established as a dairy center. Of the 50 original local families living in the area, most were associated with farming or with the dairy industry. Norwalk was also the home of some of the largest sugar beet farms in all of Southern California during this same time. Many of the dairy farmers who settled in Norwalk during the early part of the 20th century were Dutch.

The last 50 years has seen a major increase in the Hispanic population as the area became increasingly residential. Norwalk has also gained a significant Asian population in the last 20 years from families priced out of wealthier neighboring Cerritos and communities in Orange County.
